The Kool Skool Salutes RAPHAEL SAADIQ

Estelle and Raphael Saadiq stylin'!

Amazing new Raphael Saadiq video for his single "GOOD MAN"
STARRING: Chad Coleman & Yaya DaCosta

Raphael Saadiq, first shot to mainstream success with the New Jack Swing group Tony! Toni! Toné!, known for slow jams and high tempo jams alike. After featuring on the Boyz In The Hood Soundtrack, the group gained serious international attention.

It Never Rains In Southern California Tony! Toni! Toné!

In 1999 Raphael Saadiq, DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and En Vogue member Dawn Robinson formed the supergroup Lucy Pearl. The project was really interesting and refreshing for Hip-Hop and R&B, with a mature mix of Live instrumentation and DJ cuts, and guest appearances from Q-Tip and Snoop. It was a real shame they never released a second album.

Since then Saadiq has gone on to release several albums, a personal favourite is "Ray Ray", released in 2004 was a 1970's style throw back concept album, which featured a "Grown Folks" - a loose rework of Marvin Gay's "Save The Babies". He is always pushing his music forward with a flavour of tradition. The Kool Skool Salutes Raphael Saadiq!!!

The Kool Skool Salutes The Fresh Prince (Will Smith)

DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince - Brand New Funk 2005 The legends smash one of the best songs they ever recorded

Before he was opening Scientology Schools for Rich kids near Malibu, or his catch phrase "Ahhhh hell naaaaah" featured in all of his movies, The Fresh Prince along side his partner DJ Jazzy Jeff (one of the best that ever did it) were main players in Hip-Hop. The Philli Hip-Hop scene was the 1st scene that could really stand tall next to New York, and the Philli stars gave many a NY Rapper a run for their advance money!

"Just Rockin'"

Although towards the end of the 90's, as the music form became more segregated and groups like the Ultramagnetic MC's started calling The Fresh Prince, Kid & Play and others "Happy Rap", Will Smith has always been an extremely positive role model and spokesperson for the Hip-Hop generation.
