Mear One - Humanity vs The Machine HD (Offical Video)
"This marks the most complex of the year long mural tour of MEAR ONE. Keeping in line with the stream of thought carried throughout the subject matter of each mural, Humanity Vs. the Machine is an homage to the individuals who stand in resistance to authority, oppression, and slavery inflicted on the human soul."

Mear One L.A. Mural King Interview on The Alex Jones Show

Mear One L.A. Mural King Interview on The Alex Jones Show
Anyone who has been to L.A., or knows anything about L.A. Graffiti should know about Mear, in the early 90's Mear, Hex, Slick and several others had the scene on lock!

MEAR ONE began his career in 1986 as a graffiti artist living in Los Angeles. MEAR ONE has been labeled as "The Michelangelo of Graffiti" and "The Salvador Dali of Hip-Hop." He is considered by many to be Los Angeles' most prolific graffiti artist because of the way he revolutionized graffiti with his fine-art realism, breaking out of traditional 2D letter forms, and using perspective to develop complex characters with dynamic backgrounds in epic scale. By the early 1990's, he had established a large fan base through his notorious work on the streets, underground hip-hop album covers featuring his iconic imagery, and his involvement in pioneering early street wear clothing and graffiti culture. In 1993, MEAR was the first graffiti artists from Los Angeles to travel to Tokyo and paint graffiti in front of a live public audience. In the mid 90's, hip hop imagery and cultural icons in his work were replaced with a deeper, more introspective conversation based around a politically disillusioned reality that he felt hip-hop had ceased to address. At this point he began his transition from street graffiti to canvas paintings, and began his first body of acrylic and airbrushed paintings.

"R.I.P MCA" - Blackbook Art by Slick Dissizit

DemocracyNow.org - The pioneering hip-hop artist Adam Yauch died Friday of cancer at the age of 47. Known by his nickname "MCA," he was one-third of the legendary Beastie Boys. He was a practicing Buddhist and helped organize the Tibetan Freedom Concert. In 1998, he made headlines when at the Video Music Awards he publicly criticized the climate of racism toward Muslims and Arabs, and the Clinton administration's bombings of Sudan and Afghanistan. [Correction: It was incorrectly noted in our headline today that Yauch was speaking out against bombings in Iraq. It was rather bombings in Afghanistan and Sudan.]

"MCA you went AWOL RIP" - Rath COD/UPS

'AWESOME: I FUCKIN' SHOT THAT' @ The Prince Charles Theatre
ALL BOX-OFFICE TAKINGS TO BE DONATED TO CANCER RESEARCH! Starring: Mike D, Adam Horovitz and Adam Yauch
"The tragic passing of founding Beastie Boy Adam Yauch was a shock to the system for both music and film fans alike. Not only was he part of one of the most influential HipHop groups of all time, but he also set up independent film production & distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, who helped titles such as We Need To Talk About Kevin and Meeks Cutoff find an audience in the States. When the news reached the office of his passing, we immediately jumped to action to put together a screening to celebrate the life of MCA, and we couldn't think of anything better than a screening the Beastie Boys' 50 camera, crowd-shot concert film, 'AWESOME: I FUCKIN' SHOT THAT' and donating all the box office takings to Cancer Research. So come on down, help us raise some money for charity and turn our downstairs screen into one huge send-off party for the & only Nathanial Hörnblowér." - T.P.C.T.Tickets can be bought on line HERE

3 Bangers from Armageddon Terror Squad P.R-epresenting!

Armageddon 3 Bangers from Armageddon Terror Squad! P.R-epresenting!

Armageddon on twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/GEDDYMUSIC

Armageddon, Fat Joe, N.O.R.E. & DJ Doo Wop - It's Over (Remix)

The wait is now over for Armageddon's latest single, It's Over (Remix) featuring Fat Joe, N.O.R.E. & DJ Doo Wop on SoFlo Entertainment. With a play on words, director Exile Ramirez and cinematographer Brian Przypek compose the visual realities and dynamics involved with entering the rap game as Armageddon, Fat Joe and N.O.R.E. give their uncompromising honesty in taking down any "weak emcee." In this video, Fat Joe and N.O.R.E. make it a statement to point out and capture these individuals who have no place in the industry and pass them up to Armageddon for the final slaughter. It is a bold statement, but given with an undeniable wordplay. Anyone thinking otherwise is welcomed to say so themselves at Twitter.com/GeddyMusic.

Armageddon - Sending My Love (Official Music Video) clean

New video from from Armageddon's The Journal Vol I: Rebirth (Special Edition EP) In stores May 31 2011

Armageddon - Dance With The Devil

Armageddon sits behind the Director's chair alongside Gee Notes (of Beast Corps) for the visuals to, "Dance With The Devil." Shot in short-film style, the story follows a street gang in desperate need of a mischievous, adventurous night, and embark on a dark, twisted ride that ends even more demented than it began. Amidst the suspense and mystery, Armageddon still incorporates the classic, fun vibe of Hip-Hop culture as he rocks to a packed house party. "Dance With The Devil," is off his recent SoFlo Entertainment/Geddy Music release, The Journal Vol I: Rebirth.

More obscure stuff from the Kool Skool vaults, Afrika Islam "The Son of Afrika Bambaataa", best known as a Zulu Nation Sound System DJ in the Bronx Park Jams, and as one of the first Hip-Hop radio mix show DJs on his Zulu Beat Show, on 105.9 WHBI in New York. Crips And Bloods: Made In America Documantary By Stacey Peralta

"I remember interviewing Skeeter Rabbit (R.I.P.) from The Electric Boogaloos, he was a very wise and cool guy. He was the first person that really explained the rise of the Crip and Blood dynamic to me. He said that after the Black Community Leadership fell apart through Government actions, Drugs and infighting, the space left was filled by Gangs populated by the Children of the Revolutionary movement. He also talked about the Southern Rascism that followed the Black Diaspora from the South. I was amazed, because I had never heard that side of the story, and it really makes you think about it in a different angle. The quote from the O.G. Blood member in the film, that many people in L.A. are living in "suspended animation", has a whole other meaning.

Unless you spend any time in L.A., or the Southern West Coast in general, it is really hard to understand how intrenched the Gang situation is, and that includes Gangs of all races. Crips And Bloods: Made In America is an excellent look at that situation by Stacey Peralta of Skateboard Company Powell Peralta." - Shucks One

The Kool Skool have previously looked at Gang Imagery in Hip-Hop culture.

Cazal Couture Part 2

By an inter Planetary fluke we were working on an article on Cazal glasses when our brother Dynomite of BREAKS FOR DAYS BEATS FOR WEEKS beat us to it! So after letting him know (as biting is illegal, against the law), and in a show of B-Boy solidarity we decided to link the two! Here is part 2! Fooor you!

BREAKS FOR DAYS BEATS FOR WEEKS Cazal Couture Part 1

As many people are aware, Cazal were standard wear for true B-Boys & B-Girls, but since artists like Rick Ross, Mos-Def, Jay-Z, Kanye West have been sporting them of late, the prices are going through the roof on e-bay . The Kool Skool thought we would have a brief look at the hottest shades in Hip-Hop!

Kanye and the film Rocknrolla bumped the price up on these 858's!
